Rock and pop have their superstars. So has classical
music. One of the biggest superstars within classical music is the Chinese
pianist Lang Lang (28). May 10. 2011 he will present a recital at Oslo Concert
Hall in Norway.
Lang Lang is born in Shen Yang in China. He is a spectacular pianist and
a wonderful interpreter of classical music. He is an idol for millions of
young pianists all over the world with his fantastic playing and generous
and youthful appearance.
Lang Lang has in spite of his young age already lived a long life with music.
He started playing piano only three years old, and two years later he won
the Shen Yang piano competition in China. Only nine years of age he became
a student at the Beijing conservatory of music. Before he was 20 he had
won a large number of awards.
Lang Langs break through into stardom came at the age of 17 when he was
hastily invited to the Gala of the Century, a part of the Ravinia Festival
in Chicago. After that event his career took off. He is now touring the
whole world in the most well known concert halls and the most acknowledged
arenas. He plays concerts with famous orchestras as Berlin Philharmonic,
The Vienna Philharmonic and other top orchestras all over the world.
In addition to the ordinary classical concerts, Lang Lang has also appeared
in many exclusive events, as the opening of the Olympic Games in Beijing
in 2008. In 2008 he performed together with the legendary jazz pianist Herbie
Hancock at the 50th Grammy Awards. He also played at The Peace Prize Concert
in Oslo in 2009. His new recording of Beethovens Piano Concertos Nos. 1
and 4 with L’Orchestre de Paris was nominated for a Grammy Awards
and Lang Lang appeared on Billboard New Artist chart in the highest position
for any classical artist. In 2008 The Recording Academy named him their
